DESCRIPTION:
APW - E Howard & Co, Boston, Series IV with Abbott's conversion, N-S (just over 19S), very heavy 14-18K "Joslin & Park" original HC with crowned "18" mark, heavy scalloped band without weighting, the ET gold cuvette with professionally plugged holes, unprofessional conversion of mvt to SW-LS, WE-SSD, lever escapement, 15J, gilt mvt, s#31651. The intermediary winding arbor was removed to accept the conversion mechanism, leaving an irregular hole inside the steel collar and the winding clutch visible beneath. Not a pretty site. Gross weight of assembled watch 86.7 dwt (134.9 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticks & stops, needs OH, fine, or ruined, mvt condition overall, depending how one feels about a poorly executed conversion; dial with fracture and hls, floating as the feet are lacking their screws, which attach from behind; hands fine to excellent, seconds missing, post remaining straight despite the shifting dial; case shows light wear, some MFS, no dents or dings, detail fading and vanishing around the shoulders and reduced overall; plated bow tight but mostly brass, period conversion crown shows medium wear and break; good glass crystal.
